Eugenio Zaffaroni analyzed Cristina Kirchner's conviction and asserted that it was "a common case of lawfare."

Former Supreme Court Justice,Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni spoke before the national deputies and elaborated on the house arrest sentence handed down to two-time PresidentCristina Kirchner in the Vialidad case, which he described as " a common case of judicial lawfare ." Zaffaroni compared the case to a similar one in Ecuador.
The former magistrate appeared this Tuesday the 15th as a specialist speaker at the Chamber of Deputies' Women and Diversity Committee, where legislators analyzed cases of political violence against opposition leaders and journalists. During his presentation, Zaffaroni stated: " The case of Cristina Kirchner is a common case of lawfare; it lacks any new features or creativity. The ruling by the Oral and Cassation Court follows the model of the Bribery case against (Rafael) Correa in Ecuador ."
"Nor is what our third triumvirate did imposed on local circumstances, but rather a regional decision," Zaffaroni added. In 2020, an Ecuadorian court sentenced former President Rafael Correa, accused of corruption, to eight years in prison for the case known as the "2012-2016 bribery case."
During another part of his presentation, the former judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (2016-2022) expressed his concern about the " hate speech " disseminated by Javier Milei's government. "It's a tactic that requires identifying an enemy to annihilate, and consequently, it operates a friend-enemy scheme . Of course, this isn't new, and it wasn't invented here. It's the theory of the German philosopher Carl Schmitt," he pointed out.
At the end of her speech, she thanked the president of the Women and Diversity Commission, Mónica Macha , and stated that "in times of institutional crisis, these sessions lift spirits and strengthen the will to continue fighting against the colonialist situation imposed by the National Government."
In addition to Zaffaroni, the meeting in the Chamber of Deputies was attended by journalists Julia Mengolini and Nanci Pazos ; Alesia Abaigar's mother, Eva Pietravallo ; Leila Linhares Barsted; Lucía Portos; Pedro Paradiso Sottile; Guadalupe Bargiela; Luci Cavallero; Marcela Romero ; and Melisa García . The legislative blocs present were Union for the Homeland, Federal Encounter, Civic Coalition, and the Left Front.
The deputies present were Esteban Paulón , Oscar Agost Carreño, Florencia Carignano, Maximiliano Ferraro, Paula Penacca, Eduardo Valdés, Christian Castillo, Eduardo Valdés, Sergio Palazzo, Carlos Castagneto, Carolina Yutrovic, Paula Penacca, Daniel Gollan, Mercedes de Mendieta, Alejandro Vilca and Juan Carlos Giordano.
During the meeting, bills were approved against the persecution and harassment of critical journalists and LGBTIQ+ community leaders, including Representative Paulón himself. Draft declarations were also issued against "the political violence that the judiciary and sectors of the ruling party are exercising against the president of the Justicialist Party, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner."
